SHAH ALAM, July 8 — Approximately 5,581 Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (TAWAS) members born in 2008 who have reached the age of 18 have received the RM1,500 benefit, with total payments of RM7.51 million as of yesterday.

Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor chief executive officer Gan Pei Nei said that first-phase payments totalling more than RM4.43 million were disbursed to 3,068 recipients born between January and March 2008 via electronic fund transfers and e-wallets.

For the second phase, 2,513 recipients born between April and June 2008 received payments totalling more than RM3.08 million.

"We are distributing the payments in four phases. The first phase is for those born between January and March, while the second phase covers those born in April, May, and June.

"The third phase is for members born between July and September, while the fourth phase is for those born between October and December," she told Media Selangor.

Gan added that the benefits are generally disbursed during the final two weeks of each phase. Members who miss submitting their claims within their respective birth phases may still do so within one year of reaching age 18.

They must also submit their claims by the deadline set for each phase to receive payment.

"Members are advised to submit their claims before the payment date. For example, if we make payments on September 15, the final day to submit a claim is September 14.

"If they are unable to do so by then, they may submit it later, and the payment will be made in the following phase. For example, if someone misses the claim deadline for the first phase, the application can still be processed, and payment will be made in the next phase.

"In fact, members have one year from the date they turn 18 to make their claim; however, we encourage them to do so as soon as possible. If they fail to submit a claim within one year, they will no longer be eligible to receive the benefit under the current state government policy," she said.

Previously, Gan announced that 21,295 TAWAS members born in 2008 are eligible to receive RM1,500 this year, with recipients given one year to submit their claims.

Menteri Besar Dato' Amirudin Shari previously said that the implementation of TAWAS demonstrates the state government's commitment to empowering the younger generation and ensuring that every Selangor child has a stable start in life.

First introduced in 2008, the initiative is now beginning to bear fruit, as children who previously benefited from the School Entry Assistance Programme in Primary One are receiving the fund upon reaching 18.
