SUNGAI BULOH, March 16 — Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) has allocated about RM50,000 to Masjid Jamiul Ehsan in Kampung Kubu Gajah here for its Ihya Ramadan programme as well as funding for a solar system project.

MBI group chief executive officer group chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M Yusop said the contribution includes RM20,000 for the solar system project, while the remainder will go towards asnaf aid (aid for welfare groups) such as duit raya, Ramadan programmes at the mosque and food baskets.

“This is part of our allocation this year under the Ihya Ramadan programme totalling RM4 million for the whole of Selangor, involving various contributions including food baskets, duit raya and also funds to develop solar projects.

“The use of a solar system at this mosque could reduce electricity bills, which currently stand at about RM4,500 a month. The mosque is very active in organising various programmes, so this will help lower operational costs,” he said.

He expressed hope that more companies and organisations would come forward to support the solar initiative, which also aligns with the Selangor state government’s efforts to strengthen ESG practices and expand the use of green energy at mosque premises.

Saipolyazan was speaking to the media at a breaking-of-fast event and the presentation of aid to asnaf members of the Masjid Jamiul Ehsan congregation in Kampung Kubu Gajah, Paya Jaras last night.

Meanwhile, the nazir of Masjid Jamiul Ehsan, Anuar Md Zain, said the solar installation project had actually been planned about five years ago but could not be implemented then due to several technical constraints.

He said the total cost of the project is estimated at RM300,000 and hopes it can become a pilot initiative that could serve as a model for the development of solar energy use in mosques across Selangor.

According to him, the project will not only help reduce costs for mosque management but also bring long-term benefits to the local community while supporting environmental sustainability efforts.

“At present, the mosque’s electricity bill can reach nearly RM60,000 a year, especially with the increasing number of programmes being organised.

“With the installation of this solar system, the return on investment is expected within four to five years, while the system itself can last up to 30 years,” he said.

Earlier, MBI Foundation chairman Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said RM4 million has been allocated this year for the Ihya Ramadan programme, which includes various initiatives to enliven the holy month, including duit raya contributions to those in need.
