SHAH ALAM, Oct 23 — The state government plans to expand the Mega Selangor Nutrition Programme (NutriSel) to candidates sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in the state.

Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) or MBI's chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the programme is being planned to help meet candidates’ nutritional needs throughout their examination preparation period.

“The programme is planned for all SPM candidates, and lunch may also be provided. However, the implementation date will be announced by the Menteri Besar,” he said.

Azri was speaking to the media after the 2026 SPM Munajat Perdana event at Masjid Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah yesterday.

The programme is among the state government’s efforts to support the welfare of SPM candidates, alongside various educational initiatives aimed at improving students’ academic performance in Selangor.

On October 5, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said NutriSel would be expanded to schools throughout the state to ensure more students had access to nutritious meals.

The state government is reviewing funding requirements and costs to ensure the programme can continue, while considering adding longer-lasting food items such as milk and bread.

In addition to the Mega NutriSel initiative, the regular NutriSel programme, which provides meals twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays, will continue until early November. It involves 104,640 students from families earning less than RM2,000 a month.
