Selangor ready to assist Sg Buloh nursery operators, subject to state capacity

KUALA LANGAT, March 14 — The state government is ready to assist about 30 nursery operators in Sungai Buloh to relocate in view of an upcoming road widening project that is set to affect the premises.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Dato’ Izham Hashim however said the assistance would depend on the state government’s capacity, particularly regarding the relocation to new sites.

“The project needs to be expedited because the road needs to be widened. We have delayed it many times. It’s time to take action. Some nursery operators have already relocated.

“We can discuss and find suitable locations. I have reviewed several new sites, but none are suitable so far. Ideally, we want to maintain these nurseries as a tourism attraction.

“We are asking them to look for new locations themselves, and we will provide support. However, it is difficult to accommodate all operators in one place,” he told Media Selangor.

Izham added that a previous proposal to relocate the nurseries to Bukit Changgang, Banting was canceled due to unsuitable soil conditions and frequent flooding in the area.

He also said the state government cannot consider further extensions as the road widening project has been delayed since last year, while the operators have already received ex-gratia payments of RM10,000 each.

"This has dragged on for too long. The project needs to start and should have begun earlier. We will take enforcement action after Aidilfitri,” he said.

In February, Izham had reported that 66 nursery sites along Jalan Sungai Buloh need to be cleared to make way for the road widening and elevated road construction, part of the strategic development in Kwasa Damansara.

He explained that the infrastructure project is crucial for improving traffic flow, enhancing connectivity, and supporting economic growth and phased development in the Sungai Buloh–Damansara corridor.

Izham said the areas involved were occupied without ownership documents or official approval, and that the ex-gratia payment is meant as assistance for the relocation and does not constitute recognition of ownership or permanent occupation.

Last Thursday, local media reported that about 30 affected nursery operators wanted to meet Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari to request replacement sites.
