New ‘oyen’ exhibit highlight of Selangor Pavilion at MAHA

SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — The Selangor Pavilion will centre a unique offering at the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show (MAHA), with an exclusive cat exhibit, said state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim.

He added that the “Oyen Exhibit”, managed by the Veterinary Services Department (DVS), is set to draw more visitors and especially animal lovers.

He said the Selangor Pavilion will also feature the Barbados Black Belly — a goat that could become a major protein source and plays an important role in the food security ecosystem.

“For this edition, the Selangor Pavilion will centre the state’s agro-ecosystemic strengths, in terms of food production, technology, farming, fisheries, entrepreneurship, marketing, and agrotourism.

“It reflects Selangor’s efforts to add value into every agro chain to fortify the state’s food security,” he told Media Selangor.

Izham said the Fisheries Department meanwhile will hold a native and foreign fish species exhibit to promote alternative, diverse fish resources, and the use of biofloc technology in fish farming.

He also said the ornamental fish exhibit would highlight the potential of the high-value industry in generating more earnings.

“We expect the Northwestern Selangor IADA (Integrated Agricultural Development Area) padi exhibit, which showcases the early process until the end of the staple production chain, to also be a highlight,” Izham said.

MAHA will be held at Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) from August 28 to September 6 with the theme “Value Creation For Food Security”.

The biennial expo centres modernisation and agricultural innovation, as well as various products, technologies, services and opportunities in the agrofood sector.

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu previously said MAHA would draw more than four million visitors and gather around 2,000 local and foreign exhibitors, including 14 other countries.
