SUBANG JAYA, Feb 26 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has issued licences for 65 trash compactors for domestic waste collectors while approvals for 12 others are pending, said Subang Jaya Mayor Dato’ Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim.

Speaking to reporters, Amirul said the delay is due to ongoing coordination with the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), which holds the authority to grant licences.

“We are a customer of APAD. It is the service authority for licensing, and only APAD can provide approvals,” he said in a press conference after an MBSJ board meeting at the council headquarters here today.

When asked about when the licences for the remaining 12 collectors would be approved, he said MBSJ will follow up with APAD soon.

“APAD has not engaged with us yet. MBSJ will follow up because it affects users’ access to domestic waste collection. We may get (together) with (APAD) soon,” he added.

Meanwhile, Amirul said there were fewer public complaints this month from January.

“Complaints have gone down. In January, commercial areas were the most affected, but in February complaints significantly decreased,” he said.

Earlier this month, The Star reported Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya residents’ complaints about irregular rubbish collection.

Subang Jaya has 57 domestic waste collection zones, served by 77 trash compactors.

Previously, it was reported that 46 of the trash compactors were new and 31 were slated for replacement.

KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) Subang Jaya head of operations Mohd Ridhuan Tahir later said waste collection is now regular, with a 95 per cent operating status in all zones following a one-month familiarisation period since the new contract began on January 1.
