SUBANG JAYA, June 30 — Efforts to improve access to public transport hubs with more pedestrian walkway projects are being developed this year, said Subang Jaya Mayor Dato' Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim.
The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) completed one pedestrian walkway project last year, and more projects are currently underway.
“This year, we have started four pedestrian walkway projects, to be exact. Last year, we completed one, so this year alone we have implemented four, bringing the total to five.
“For next year as well, we are planning additional works during the MBSJ annual budget operating plan in August, and pedestrian walkway improvements will also be included,” he said after MBSJ’s full board meeting and the Subang Jaya Strategic Plan’s launch at MBSJ’s headquarters today.
The move comes as local authorities across Selangor step up efforts to improve pedestrian facilities following concerns over gaps and shortcomings in existing walkways.
On Friday (June 26), state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said local authorities must continue upgrading pedestrian infrastructure to create safer, more accessible, and people-friendly urban environments.
On a related note, Amirul said the locations of the pedestrian walkways have already been identified and marked by the relevant department, and contractors are currently carrying out construction works.
“The locations have been identified and marked by the Forestry Department, and now it is in the process of appointment and mobilisation of contractors to build these pedestrian walkways,” he said.
