SHAH ALAM, July 23 — Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) is intensifying efforts to curb the spread of dengue by monitoring 11 hotspots following an increase in cases within its administrative area this year.
Subang Jaya mayor Dato’ Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said 2,533 cases had been recorded up to Epidemiological Week 27, an increase of 25.15 per cent compared with 2,024 cases during the same period last year.
He said MBSJ’s Health Department, together with the Petaling District Health Office and related agencies, had implemented various measures to control the outbreak.
“Among the actions taken are inspections to identify and report Aedes mosquito breeding sites, as well as larvicide treatment and fogging operations.
“Efforts to combat dengue require the cooperation of all parties. MBSJ calls on the public to eliminate all mosquito breeding grounds in their respective areas,” he said at MBSJ’s full council meeting on Tuesday, as reported by StarMetro.
The meeting was Amirul Azizan’s final full council meeting as mayor after completing his two-year term.
In a separate development, Amirul Azizan said 565 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras would be installed under the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) initiative.
He said 140 CCTV cameras had been installed so far, of which 42 were already operational.
“MBSJ is also planning to install another 300 artificial intelligence-powered CCTV cameras equipped with enhanced facial recognition capabilities.
“Funding for the installation of these cameras will be included in the 2027 Budget,” he said.
He also said MBSJ had conducted a placemaking study in SS15 on July 14 to gather public feedback aimed at improving public spaces.
Meanwhile, commenting on councillor Lee Jen Uyin’s proposal to end parking enforcement at 5.30 pm instead of the current 6.30 pm, Amirul Azizan said the existing operating hours were standardised across all local authorities in Selangor.
He added that any changes could only be made after amendments to the relevant by-laws had been approved.
