Yayasan MBI opens applications for school aid

SHAH ALAM, Jan 26 — Parents may apply for schooling aid from Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, from today, said foundation chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor.

He said applications can be submitted to community service centres or state constituency coordinator centres.

“Applications are open for two weeks from today. The RM100 in cash aid is to help lighten parents’ burden in preparing their children for school.

“The quota for each state constituency is 300 students. Among application requirements are that applicants’ household incomes should be under RM5,000,” he said when met at an aid presentation ceremony here today.

Previously, Azri said nearly RM20 million has been disbursed over 10 years to help around a million students with school equipment.

The assistance is meant to prevent students from low-income families from dropping out.

Applicants must register at their respective state constituency coordinator centres and prepare supporting documents such as copies of parents’ MyKads and their children’s birth certificates or MyKids.

Other than the back-to-school aid, Yayasan MBI handles various education initiatives such as the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS), laptop donations, and free internet data.

During the aid presentation ceremony today, Yayasan MBI reinforced its aim to help vulnerable communities with education and welfare assistance.

Among today’s recipients was Qistina Wafiyyah Shahrul Nizam, 23, who received RM5,000 in support of her involvement in the Global Student Leadership Summit (GSLS) in Japan in December.

The Universiti Malaysia Terengganu student, who is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (Financial Mathematics), said she tabled a working paper during the international event.

“I found out about this contribution through social media and tried applying. Thank God, it went through. Even though the GSLS was at the end of last year, this contribution helps with those costs to some extent.

“Thank you to Yayasan MBI for the opportunity and contribution. I hope there will be more assistance like this in the future,” Qistina Wafiyyah told Media Selangor after the ceremony at Bangunan Darul Ehsan here today.

At the same ceremony, Yayasan MBI channelled RM1,000 in aid to Rosegreazeey Appalasamy, 46, whose home was affected by the Pelabuhan Klang storm in October.

She said her roof was destroyed in the disaster, and expressed gratitude over receiving immediate aid from her state assemblyman, which helped her with home repairs.

“This aid from Yayasan MBI will also really help me and my family. Thank you,” Rosegreazeey said.

Meanwhile, Norsariyah Mohamed Jamil, 38, also received RM1,000 in aid as her “nasi Arab” stall was destroyed in a storm in November.

“The application process with Yayasan MBI was simple and not too much fuss. Thank God, I was chosen as a recipient. Thank you, Yayasan MBI.

“This aid would help to some extent with costs to restart my business,” said Norsariyah, who lives in Taman Sutera, Kajang.
