SHAH ALAM, Jan 17 — Applications for schooling aid from Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, will open at the end of the month, said foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor.
He said Yayasan MBI has allocated RM1.7 million for the initiative, which is set to benefit 16,800 students from low-income families.
“Applications can be made at service or state constituency coordinator centres. We are offering RM100 to (each) student, but haven’t decided whether it will be cash or in kind.
“Every state constituency can help 300 students. (Upon receiving the applications), MBI will perform checks to ensure the aid reaches students who truly deserve it,” he told Media Selangor.
Previously, Azri said nearly RM20 million has been disbursed over the past decade to help around a million students with schooling aid.
He added that the effort aims to ensure students, especially those from low-income families, don’t drop out.
Applicants must register at their nearest state constituency service centre and prepare supporting documents including parents’ identity cards, birth certificates, and MyKid.
Other than the back-to-school aid, Yayasan MBI handles various education initiatives such as the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS), laptop donations, and free internet data.
