KLANG, Jan 24 — The Selangor New Village Fiesta 2026 “Jom Thit Tho Lah!” has the potential to be made an annual or biennial event and organised on a rotational basis among new villages to promote the uniqueness and heritage of local communities across the state.
State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the fiesta serves as an ideal platform to introduce the state’s 77 new villages, fishing villages and organised villages to the public.
According to him, new villages are places where many members of the Chinese community grew up and hold numerous fond memories, making the organisation of the fiesta important in efforts to preserve and promote cultural heritage.
“We hope the public will take the opportunity to attend the Selangor New Village Fiesta to get to know, promote and explore the uniqueness of each new village and fishing village.
“Young people in particular need to understand the stories and history of new villages, as this is important for the continuity of cultural heritage,” he said when officiating the Selangor New Village Fiesta here today.
Ng stated that the development of new villages requires the involvement and continuity of the younger generation.
“The state government organises festivals like this to showcase the unique culture and tourism potential of Selangor’s new villages, while encouraging visitors to extend their stay in the state and in turn stimulate the local economy,” he said.
Also present were Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San, Pandamaran assemblyman Leong Tuck Chee, Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Pua Pei Ling, Bandar Baru Klang assemblyman Dr Quah Perng Fei, Lembah Jaya assemblyman Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman Alhadad, Balakong assemblyman Ong Chun Wei, Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain, and Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) deputy secretary-general (Tourism) Chua Choon Hwa.
Ng expressed hope that the event could serve as a model for other new villages and be considered for annual or biennial organisation as a national-level festival benchmark.
“New villages in Selangor are not merely residential areas, but historical and cultural treasures that reflect multi-ethnic harmony, the spirit of cooperation and valuable local heritage,” he said.
Organised by the state government in collaboration with Tourism Selangor, the fiesta is held over two days from today at SJKC Pandamaran B.
The programme features six main themes, namely ‘Jalan-Jalan’, ‘Makan-Makan’, ‘Beli-Belah’, ‘Hiburan’, ‘Bergambar’ and ‘Kreativiti’, allowing visitors to rediscover new village life, culture and creativity through various approaches.
