SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — More than 200 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras for Selangor's Smart Intelligent Parking (SIP) system have been installed within the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) administrative area, out of a total target of 500 units.
State executive councillor for local government Dato' Ng Suee Lim said work to install the remaining cameras was being accelerated, although several technical aspects, including electricity supply at the installation sites, were still being coordinated.
He said cooperation with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) was crucial to ensure that each camera received the electricity supply needed to operate.
“There are 500 cameras to be installed in the MBSJ area, and so far, more than 200 have been installed.
“Electricity supply from TNB requires coordination, particularly at the installation sites. We want all parties to cooperate so that the process can be accelerated and any constraints overcome,” he told Media Selangor.
Ng said the system was now being expanded to other local authorities (PBTs) to improve the efficiency of parking management across the state.
He said the state government would continue to monitor the SIP's progress and effectiveness to ensure its implementation met the required standards and service levels.

Coordination between local authorities and service providers was also being strengthened to ensure the system operated smoothly on the ground, he added.
“The state government and local authorities want to ensure smoother collection, better traffic management and more orderly parking.
“People want a more advanced system that does not cause inconvenience, especially when it comes to payment. So, we want the services being implemented to truly meet people's expectations,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ng said the use of technology needed to be supported by improvements in the capabilities of local authority enforcement officers who deal directly with the public.
He said enforcement officers should therefore be given sufficient training and equipment while adopting a user-friendly approach when carrying out their duties.
“Enforcement officers need to be given adequate training, engage courteously with users and be equipped with better facilities so that their duties on the ground can be carried out smoothly without causing problems,” he said.
