SHAH ALAM, Jan 11 — A canal widening project in the Kota Kemuning state constituency is currently being actively carried out to address flood risks in the area, said its assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan.
He said the project in Taman Sri Muda, Section 25, is part of a flood mitigation plan being implemented according to schedule, involving engineering works and the construction of supporting infrastructure.
“The canal widening works are ongoing, including several engineering aspects that are being finalised. At the same time, the construction of a new floodgate along Jalan Bukit Kemuning is also in progress.
“So far, the project is proceeding as planned, but I hope it can be expedited so that flood risks can be minimised,” he said when met after a school aid handover ceremony for underprivileged students in the constituency today.
Preakas said several flood-prone areas such as Alam Indah and Greenhills are also receiving drainage system improvements to ensure smoother water flow.
“In Alam Indah, the drainage system has been upgraded, while in Greenhills, state executive councillor for infrastructure Dato’ Izham Hashim has agreed to build larger drains as a long-term measure.
“All these are phased efforts to ensure residents no longer face recurring flood impacts,” he said.

Meanwhile, Preakas said 120 students from low-income families in Kota Kemuning received RM100 in cash aid under the Back to School programme today.
He said the annual initiative is meant to ensure underprivileged students are not left behind academically due to financial limitations.
"We don't want our children not attend school simply because they don't have the basic necessities. Education is importance, and that is why this aid is distributed each year.
"If there are any family that requires help, just come to my office. We will help," he said.
