SHAH ALAM, July 9 — Kota Kemuning assembly Preakas Sampunathan today urged quarters concerned to expedite flood mitigation projects in the area and ensure they are on schedule to prevent the recurrent disaster.
He said he was informed that the Sri Muda project is underway and the new Sungai Rasau sluice gate is being built, with widening works on a retention pond almost done.
“The progress of all main projects in this area is estimated at between 30 and 50 per cent. I hope all these projects can be done on time,” he told Media Selangor.
Preakas said flooding is among the issues most frequently brought up by residents during his biweekly site visits, adding that he has toured Sri Muda, Kota Kemuning, Putera Heights and Bukit Rimau so far.
“Every two weeks, I choose a zone to visit. We inform residents so they attend and directly inform me of issues they face and matters I need to bring up to relevant parties,” he explained.
Besides flooding, he said, among the more prevalent complaints are poorly maintained trees, damaged roads, infrastructure damage, and cleanliness issues.
“I have brought these matters to the local authority so action can be taken as soon as possible. I also ask councillors to … check sites in person and give residents updates,” he added.
Meanwhile, Preakas called on the state government to widen several roads in the constituency and ensure the LRT network reaches Kota Kemuning to reduce traffic congestion.
“We don’t have the LRT network in Kota Kemuning, Bukit Rimau, and Sri Muda. I hope an LRT connection can be (built) in this area to ease residents’ movements and reduce traffic jams,” he added.
