SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 — After being abandoned for more than two decades, construction of the Kristal Apartment project in Taman Selayang Mutiara has finally resumed, with work restarting in December last year.
Selangor executive councillor for women’s development Anfaal Saari said efforts to help more than 400 affected buyers began in early 2024, involving close cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
Anfaal, who is also the Taman Templer state assemblyman, explained that the Kristal Apartment project was abandoned after the original developer went bankrupt.
“I set up a task force after homeowners approached me in early 2024 to complain about the issue. Contractors were appointed and even changed hands, but the project still failed to take off.
“Some of the buyers have since passed away. We sympathise with them as they had been paying their bank loans but never got the chance to live in their homes,” she said when contacted by Media Selangor.
She added that KPKT has injected RM45 million in funding into the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), and a letter of acceptance has been handed over to the new developer.
According to Anfaal, the Kristal Apartment project comprises 500 units across eight blocks and is expected to be completed within the next 18 months.
“This is one of the longest-running abandoned cases, so I made it my commitment to help resolve it. I hope this assistance will finally bring joy to owners who have had to rent elsewhere for years,” she said.
The Kristal Apartment project was officially declared an abandoned private housing project by KPKT on Febrary 18, 2013.
