SHAH ALAM, Aug 28 — The 2026 Selangor Children’s Literature Festival (SCLF) is among the state government’s efforts to support children’s development through reading, which can nurture focus, imagination, and critical thinking from a young age.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said children’s literature books are not merely reading materials, but also help develop emotional calmness and stimulate critical thinking.

“Islam itself places great emphasis on reading and the pursuit of knowledge. Therefore, this programme conveys a profound message that every child is born with their own uniqueness and potential.

“This is in line with the ‘No One Left Behind’ principle, which reflects the state government’s commitment to providing an inclusive ecosystem so that every child has equal opportunities,” she said.

Anfaal was speaking at SCLF 2026's opening ceremony at the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC) today.

She added that the festival also shows literature and physical books still play an important role in children’s development, despite their exposure to a wide range of digital content today.

Meanwhile, Selangor Public Library Corporation director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad said nearly 200 programmes have been prepared for the four-day festival, with over 100 exhibitors from various fields participating.

Various activities have also been planned to give children opportunities to listen to stories, use their imagination, create works, and try new things in an enjoyable learning environment.

“The programme also gives parents an opportunity to spend quality time with their children and take a break from gadgets and screens.

“Children actually need time and unconditional love from their parents because attention and togetherness are important in shaping their emotions, self-confidence, and development,” she said.

SCLF 2026 will be held for four days from today at the SITC and at Aneka Walk Shah Alam, under the theme ‘Celebrating Every Children’s Story’.

The festival also features various reading, creative, and creative-writing activities aimed at strengthening the reading culture and improving children’s literacy.
