SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 — The state government, through the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), is adopting a more comprehensive approach to ensure senior citizens continue to lead healthy, active, and dignified lives.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said RS-2 emphasises support at every stage of people’s lives, viewing senior citizens' needs as more than cash or financial assistance.

Instead, the approach covers care, health, psychosocial well-being, and community support based on the group's actual needs.

“Among the initiatives listed is ‘Selangor Mesra Warga Emas’, which strengthens the social protection network through Skim Khairat Kematian, Skim Mesra Selangor, and Iltizam Emas Selangor,” she told Media Selangor.

Anfaal added that RS-2 also focuses on the Selangor People’s Health Screening Programme and Senior Citizens’ Health Screening to enable the early detection of non-communicable diseases and age-related health risks.

Iltizam Emas Selangor is one of the initiatives under the Selangor Care Economy agenda, providing more comprehensive support for senior citizens, caregivers, and families.

“Previously, welfare was often associated with targeted assistance. Under RS-2, we want to move towards a more holistic ecosystem that meets the needs of senior citizens in terms of care, health, psychosocial well-being, and community support,” she said.

Another initiative is the Selangor Care Navigator, which enables the state government to reach out to individuals requiring care, identify their needs, and match them with appropriate assistance and services.

RS-2 also provides Care Equipment Assistance to help caregivers and care recipients obtain the necessary equipment, particularly to improve the quality of life of senior citizens.

In addition, the Respite Care Wellness Hub will expand the functions of the Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) by providing caregivers with a place to rest as well as activities for senior citizens.

The centres will also offer services such as health screenings, psychosocial support, and health promotion activities.

Meanwhile, the Selangor Care Scheme focuses on increasing the number of trained caregivers to meet the growing demand for care services, particularly for senior citizens.

Anfaal noted that the senior citizens’ agenda under RS-2 will also be strengthened through the development of the Selangor Care Economy Policy to meet individuals' changing needs as they enter old age.
