SHAH ALAM, Dec 30 — Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah has recorded more than 100,000 tourists throughout 2025, further cementing its position as one of Malaysia's iconic Islamic tourism destinations.

Its Grand Imam Datuk Muhammad Farhan Wijaya said the figure included visitors from Europe, West Asia, and East Asia, particularly from Japan and China, who visited Selangor or the Klang Valley.

The achievement reflects a significant increase in tourist interest in mosque tourism, in line with ongoing efforts to enhance the role of mosques not only as places of worship but also as destinations for knowledge, culture, and Islamic architecture.

“The increase in visitors shows that the mosque is not merely a place of worship, but also serves as a space to showcase the beauty of Islam to all.

“We have observed high interest, especially among non-Muslim tourists, to understand the architecture, history, and universal values of Islam,” he said in a statement today.

Farhan added that, besides architectural features, mosque tourism programmes organised by Masjid Negeri Selangor Guide (MNSG) also contributed to the increased visitor numbers.

The mosque had also collaborated with tourism agencies, educational institutions, industry players, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to ensure visits were informative, ethical, and respectful of worship practices.

“Throughout 2025, various initiatives were introduced, including guided tours, Mosque Open Day events, mosque tourism briefings, and informal Islamic educational programmes that were visitor-friendly.

“In the context of state tourism development, this achievement aligns with Selangor’s aspiration to strengthen Islamic culture and heritage tourism. Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah plays a strategic role as an ‘entry point’ to a more inclusive Islamic tourism narrative, thereby contributing to the local economy,” he said.

For next year, the mosque's management aimed to further develop mosque tourism programmes in a more structured and sustainable manner.

Located in Shah Alam city centre, Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah is renowned for its blue dome, the largest in Southeast Asia, and four minarets standing 142.3 metres tall, offering a unique tourism experience through modern Islamic architecture that combines Malay and Middle Eastern elements.

Other attractions include the mosque’s interior beauty, like calligraphy, wood carvings, and the spacious prayer layout.
