SHAH ALAM, Dec 27 — Selangor has been actively developing an efficient, sustainable, and inclusive transport system over the past year, including the successful completion of 57.3 kilometres of new pedestrian walkways across the state.
State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han said the achievement is part of the state government’s efforts to implement public transport transformation while preserving the environment.
Various initiatives have been implemented, including the use of electric buses, the development of pedestrian infrastructure, the Petaling Jaya Transport Master Plan, and the Smart Selangor Bus service.
“At present, a total of 19 electric buses are operating in Selangor, involving four units under the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and 15 units operated by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ).
“The use of these electric buses has successfully reduced carbon emissions by 1,155 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year and is estimated to benefit 1.03 million passengers annually,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Ng added that the construction of new pedestrian walkways involved 12 local authorities, including the Royal Klang City Council (14.88 kilometres), the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (7.7 kilometres), and the Kajang Municipal Council (5.9 kilometres).
Similarly, a 1.5-kilometre covered pedestrian walkway from the State Secretariat Building to the Shah Alam city centre has also begun operations.
In a related development, the number of Smart Selangor Bus passengers continues to rise, with approximately 10,327,981 passengers recorded in 2023; 10,437,493 in 2024, and 10.6 million this year.
He said the Petaling Jaya Transport Master Plan focuses on improving transport and logistics management, enhancing existing public transport systems, and integrating pedestrian routes and micro-mobility facilities.
Ng also assured that the state government will continue to strengthen efforts to build a greener, more effective public transport system in Selangor.
