SHAH ALAM, Dec 20 — Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung aims to boost the city’s tourism appeal by promoting Malay culinary heritage in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026).

He said Petaling Jaya is often overlooked as a tourist destination, a perception he believes could change by showcasing its authentic strengths, particularly in Taman Medan.

“Petaling Jaya, including Taman Medan, is rich in Malay food heritage. Locals know that this area is well known for dishes originating from Perak, Johor and various other states.

“Among the initiatives being planned is the organisation of a Malay food festival in Taman Medan, in collaboration with the Tourism, Arts and CultureMinistry, as part of preparations for VMY2026,” he said when met at the back-to-school programme at Dataran Anak Muda PJS here today.

Lee said efforts will also focus on upgrading infrastructure, including the construction of a roofed structure at the PJS4 night market to improve comfort and safety for traders.

“With a covered site, hawkers will no longer have to worry about weather conditions or safety issues,” he said, while expressing hope that the PJS4 road works would be completed within the scheduled timeline.

When asked about his expectations for the coming year, he described 2026 as a crucial period for the federal government to demonstrate its performance through concrete results and effective policy implementation.

“2026 marks the third year of the Madani government’s administration. This is the time to prove our work through track records and to ensure that every promise made is genuinely delivered to the people,” he said.
