SELAYANG, Dec 20 — The Selangor Special Needs Children (Anis) assistance programme will be rebranded as the Rahmah Assistance for Persons with Disabilities (BRIS) starting next year, with an initial allocation of RM1 million.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the move is aimed at enhancing the overall support system for people with disabilities and their carers, both in terms of financial and non-financial aid.
She said this year, Anis has distributed RM940,000 in assistance to qualified recipients.
“Next year, we will further enhance this assistance through the rebranding. For the initial phase, we are targeting an allocation of RM1 million.
"There are also other forms of assistance that may not necessarily involve cash aid, such as health screening and mobile clinic services.
"BRIS is being planned with the cooperation of various education institutions to identify schoolchildren that may have special needs," she said after launching the Selangor Persons with Disabilities Day 2025 celebration at Universiti Teknologi Mara's (UITM) Selayang campus here today.
Anis was introduced in 2019 with the aim of assisting families with children with disabilities, by reducing their financial burden.
The one-off assistance involves a maximum amount of up to RM5,000 per household per year, covering education and learning expenses such as therapy sessions or special classes, medical needs, the purchase of medical equipment, as well as related items.
