SHAH ALAM, Dec 4 — Package 1 of the second phase of the Sungai Langat Flood Mitigation project (RTB), valued at RM512 million and aimed at tackling recurring floods in Hulu Langat, is now at the detailed design stage before implementation.
Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra) Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the project will be rolled out once the design and procurement processes are completed.
He said the project, approved under the 2025 Rolling Plan 5 (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), includes the construction of flood bunds, water control gates, pump systems, flood retention ponds, bridges, and strengthening and stabilisation works along Sungai Langat's riverbanks.

“This long-term measure focuses on reducing the risk of overflow from Sungai Langat, which frequently causes flash floods in areas such as Kampung Batu 14, Sungai Serai, Pekan Kajang and surrounding settlements,” he said during an oral reply in the Dewan Rakyat.
Fadillah was responding to a question from Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan, who asked about additional measures by the ministry to resolve flooding issues in Hulu Langat.

In addition to the major project, Fadillah said Petra is implementing several immediate interventions through the River Conservation Project to Reduce Flood Risk.
He said RM3.3 million was channelled to the Hulu Langat constituency in 2022 and 2024 to implement 27 quotation works, covering river desilting, bank stabilisation and upgrading of channels and related structures.
“For 2025, RM700,000 has been allocated for another six quotation works with similar scopes. All works are expected to be completed by December 2025.
“These short-term measures are being carried out to reduce flood impacts while awaiting the full completion of the long-term RTB project,” he added.
