KLANG, Nov 26 — Media Selangor’s “AI and Media Forum: New Perspectives on Challenges and Opportunities” received positive response from participants, who said the initiative is an important platform to improve the understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) use in an organisational setting.
Media Selangor Sdn Bhd (MSSB) corporate communications head Mahadi Mohd Mustafa said the forum not just provides in-depth exposure on AI applications in agencies and local authorities, but fortifies Media Selangor’s reputation as the state government’s official media in the digital era.
“This initiative also aims to build strategic networks, improve operational efficiency with AI technology, and ensure government information delivery is done more accurately, quickly, and effectively,” he said.
Participant Zoey Bahar, a social media executive at Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, said the programme is highly relevant seeing as AI is increasingly influencing the communications sector.
“This programme is quite helpful as the panellists gave us new suggestions on how we should face AI and how this technology can be used from various perspectives like education, corporate and politics.
“Programmes like these could be done periodically and expanded to more external participants, not just for Selangor government subsidiaries and local authorities,” Zoey said when met after the forum.
Meanwhile, fellow participant Siti Norfadila Ab Wahab, senior communications and corporate executive at Selangor Utility Corridor (KUSEL), said the event successfully balanced AI’s opportunities and challenges in day-to-day work.
“Clarifications given by panellists opened new perspectives on the role of the technology. AI plays a big role in our lives and careers now … It is a tool that helps us, but at the same time, we cannot misuse it, and must use it smartly.
“After today, I see many other paths I can take, and I will apply (my knowledge) responsibly,” Siti Norfadila said.
“AI and Media Forum: New Perspectives on Challenges and Opportunities” was joined by more than 100 participants from various agencies, and aimed to improve their understanding of AI’s role in official communications and strengthen their skills in producing content that is more accurate, creative and responsive, in line with the Selangor government’s information delivery needs.
The two-hour event featured panellists including Astro Awani head social media editor Hilal Azmi, Management and Science University (MSU) Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security Centre of Excellence director Prof Dr Muhammad Irsyad Abdullah, and Malaysian Media Council founding board member Radzi Razak.
