State to expand AI use in administration next year

PETALING JAYA, Sept 3 — The state government will expand the use of AI in administration and civil services next year, holding several hackathons to identify suitable technology providers, said state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah.

He added that this approach would allow the Selangor government to assess technology providers’ ability based on their solutions, not just costs.

“This year we spent time organising several hackathons to find the right supplier. Later there will be announcements about the hackathons that were held.

“It’s not just a question of cost, but their capability and ability to help us incorporate AI elements in the state government’s important processes.

“With collaborative partners from the private sector, next year we will expand AI use in this state,” he told reporters after launching the TEDUH@MBPJ p-hailing rider rest stop in SS2 here today.

Fahmi added that this is in line with Selangor’s efforts to cement its position as a smart state and move towards more comprehensive AI use.

“I think the people would also be more excited if there is a government that could provide more immediate responses and use data to draft policies in the future,” he said.

Selangor previously declared an aim to become the first state in Malaysia to implement the AI City initiative, which encourages the application of AI in urban management and public issue resolution.
