SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — Strong digital infrastructure, highly skilled talent, and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities are crucial to strengthening the state's position as a digital economy and technology hub.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said these elements also form the foundation to ensure Selangor remains competitive and can attract more high-value investments in the future.
“For Selangor, these developments are highly significant in our efforts to strengthen the state’s position as a digital economy and technology hub.
“Strong digital infrastructure, highly skilled talent, and AI capabilities will be among the key foundations for us to remain competitive and attract more high-value investments in the future,” he said in a Facebook post.
Amirudin was speaking after attending the 'TM80: Bridging Generations' celebration marking the 80th anniversary of TELEKOM Malaysia Berhad (TM) at Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya, which was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He added that TM’s evolution over the past eighty years reflects changes in Malaysia's communications landscape, from the era of postal and telegraph services, to fibre-optic technology, cloud computing, and AI.
“TM’s eight-decade journey is part of the country’s development journey, from postal and telegraph services and telecommunications connections that carried the call of ‘Merdeka’ across the country, to today’s era of fibre optics, cloud computing, and AI,” Amirudin said.
The Menteri Besar noted that TM also helped expand connectivity and develop local talent through MMU and various educational programmes.
These efforts include Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics; Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and training in AI, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
Meanwhile, he also congratulated the entire TM workforce on its 80-year achievement in connecting people, empowering communities, and connecting Malaysia with the world.
“May TM continue to lead Malaysia’s progressive digital transformation towards a more inclusive future,” Amirudin said.
