KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — Media Selangor will continue to enhance its role as a platform for relevant and community-focused reporting by placing greater emphasis on local issues.
Its chief executive officer Mohamed Fareed Ashaaree said balanced news coverage is essential, as reporting should encompass all districts in the state rather than focusing primarily on urban areas.
“In Selangor, we often overlook this because when people mention Selangor, they usually think of Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Shah Alam, and Subang.
“But in reality, Selangor spans from Sabak Bernam in the north to Sepang in the south,” he said at the Selangor Pavilion during the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2026 yesterday.
Fareed added that placing greater emphasis on local issues is essential to ensure communities outside major urban centres, including those in Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, and Hulu Selangor, remain connected to relevant information.
The media industry has evolved considerably since the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting many organisations to strengthen their digital presence through online news platforms, video production, and social media channels.
“If we look at the industry as a whole, most major media organisations in Malaysia, including The Star, Sinar Harian, Berita Harian, and others, have reduced their print circulation, including Media Selangor itself.
“This is because much of the resources and investment have been redirected towards digital news production, including videos, social media, and online news portals,” he said.
Fareed noted that Media Selangor will continue to adapt to developments in the media industry to ensure information is delivered to the public in a timely, relevant, and community-focused manner.
