SHAH ALAM, Nov 19 — The Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park, jointly developed by the Federal and state governments, is rapidly establishing itself as one of Malaysia’s important semiconductor talent and innovation hubs.

Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said this is evident from the 600 local engineers trained with 100 per cent job placement, and the production of technologies already adopted by global companies such as Tesla.

The park, located in Puchong, has employed more than 200 integrated circuit (IC) engineers in just over a year.

“We believe that by the end of 2026, we will employ 400 engineers. These IC engineers have 100 per cent job placement, and their starting salaries are among the highest in Malaysia… between RM5,000 and RM6,000 for bachelor’s degree holders, and RM7,000 for those with master’s degrees,” he told the press after the IC Design Park 1 showcase at the State Secretariat Building today.

Yong added that the products on display at the showcase reflected the growing capabilities of local engineers and startups nurtured under Sidec’s Accelerator programme, a dual-track initiative to scale high-potential startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia.

“We are now bringing Tesla’s system standard into Malaysian-made cars,” he said.

Yong noted that Sidec currently supports 90 startups, with many already developing commercially viable hardware for sectors like automotive, satellites, drones, and data centres.

All engineers trained are Malaysians and part of the country’s own electrical and electronics (E&E) talent pool.

State executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han was also present at the ceremony.

Among the technologies showcased were Atoz Carbon Cycle’s Verde Series ‘Green Lung’ system, WyseTime’s AI Vision ISP chip, first-person view (FPV) drones, Liroc photonic detection chip, Cortical Labs’ biological computing platform, MaiStorage enterprise SSDs, and embedded IoT systems.

The first IC Design Park in Puchong was officially launched in August 2024.

On November 6 this year, the initiative was expanded with the launch of a second IC Design Park in Cyberjaya, providing additional space and facilities for chip design companies, talent development programmes and collaboration with international partners.

During the launch, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that the second park will further strengthen Selangor’s role in the national semiconductor value chain.

He described it as a key milestone in Selangor’s mission to become the nation’s leading semiconductor hub and a main player in the global chip design ecosystem.
