KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — The Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Semiconductor Summit 2026 (AiSEM), one of the flagship components of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2026, aims to support the growth of semiconductor and integrated circuit (IC) companies, with six firms in the pipeline to go public by 2030.
Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the target aligns with the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), which aims to develop 10 companies of similar scale by 2030, with Main Market-listed SkyeChip Bhd currently valued at around RM3 billion.
“Our target has always been to list our semiconductor and IC company. Our goal is to have 10 companies of similar scale by 2030,” he told Bernama on the sidelines of AiSEM here yesterday.
Yong said Sidec will also continue to focus on three key areas, talent development, funding and business matching, to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem and help companies scale up their operations.
He said the industry currently has about 10,000 job vacancies, highlighting the need to develop more talent to meet demand.
To address the industry’s talent needs, Sidec plans to launch Phase Three of its IC Park programme and train 1,000 engineers annually from next year, with an aim for 3,000 engineers by 2030.
Sidec spearheads the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Parks to support the local semiconductor industry, with Park 1 in Puchong focusing on chip design and software development.
Meanwhile, Park 2 in Cyberjaya specialises in hardware testing, validation and talent development.
Yong said AiSEM is expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors, including 8,000 students who will have the opportunity to explore career prospects in the industry.
The summit, which brings together about 50 companies from Malaysia and overseas, also provides opportunities for businesses to explore partnerships, financing and technologies that can be applied across industries.
The 11th edition of AiSEM is being held from October 14 to 17 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) and Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur. It is a key component of the SIBS 2026.
