SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 — The state government is targeting to offer 10,000 jobs opportunities in the semiconductor sector by 2030.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said they are planning to obtain funding through two strategies: venture capital funds and domestic and international investments, so the sector can provide the vacancies.
"In the field of electricity and electronics, the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park efforts will certainly be expanded in Phase Two by targeting 800 high-paying job opportunities to be offered to Selangor's young engineers.
"This strategy is important so that Selangor's role in the semiconductor field can be enhanced to a high-value phase and Selangor companies can own intellectual property rights for integrated circuit chip designs that are the backbone of the world's digital economy,” he said when tabling the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) during the Selangor Legislative Assembly sitting today.
The announcement was made under RS-2’s “Mission One — Advancing Selangor’s economic leadership”.
Under the RS-2, Amirudin added that the government is also addressing challenges faced by the small-medium enterprises (SME) in the state.
"A critical aspect that this administration is also examining is efforts to overcome the challenges currently faced by SMEs in Selangor. Most started as micro companies and startups and have now successfully grown to the size of SMEs.
"However, the bigger challenge is how to create the ‘great leap’ to compete with SME companies from other countries in the Southeast Asian region and the Asian continent.
"To overcome this challenge, the state government will assist strategic companies in Selangor to access overseas markets. This effort was initiated this year when the Selangor International Business Summit was organised for the first time abroad when it was held in Bandung last month,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Selangor Aero Park @ KLIA Aeropolis and Subang Airport Regeneration Plan initiatives are capable of boosting aerospace industry sub-sector activities such as logistics, maintenance, repair, and overhaul and aircraft equipment construction and Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
"Selangor brings together more than 67 per cent of the total aerospace activities in Malaysia. Subang Airport has the potential to increase business and personal jet aviation activities,” Amirudin said.
For the automotive industry, the state government plans for Hulu Selangor to become a major hub through the Beringin High Tech Auto Valley, including for the electric vehicle manufacturing industry.
In a similar development, he said the Digital Economy and Creative Economy will be accelerated through the Selangor Digital Future Action Plan 2030 and the Selangor Creative Economy Advancement Hub, which aims to position Selangor as a leader in these two important areas.
