KLANG, Nov 5 — Selangor can run its state election along with the general election if the Selangor State Legislative Assembly is dissolved earlier, said Selangor DAP vice-chairman Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.
He added that the state administration is empowered to dissolve the assembly at any time to make way for concurrent federal-state polls.
“I fully support the DAP secretary’s suggestion for concurrent state and general elections. Its aim is clear: to save costs and let the people vote just once.
“It is fine if they’re held separately, but the state has the right to dissolve (the assembly) at any time. Holding (the polls) concurrently is more practical and prevents situations of yearly polling fairs.
“I support this recommendation, but if some don’t agree, it cannot be forced as it is just a suggestion,” said Ng, who is also state executive councillor for local government and tourism.
He was speaking at the officiating the graduation of Selangor Local Community Hosts from the Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor districts yesterday.
Previously, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the party supports concurrent federal-state polls to ensure efficiency and save election administration costs.
He said that although the decision to dissolve Parliament is up to the prime minister, DAP as a dominant party in the government can submit views to coordinate the dissolution in the event of facilitating concurrent federal-state polls.
Loke added that several state assemblies are nearing the ends of their terms, including Melaka in December 2026, Sarawak in February 2027, and Johor in April 2027, allowing technical leeway to coordinate their dissolution with that of Parliament if need be.
