SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will charge for parking in all of its lots to boost revenue and curb the misuse of parking spaces.
MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari was quoted by The Star as saying the decision followed an internal review that found several areas had yet to implement parking charges.
“This move is aimed at increasing our revenue and deterring people from abandoning their vehicles at such bays,” he said.
Hasrolnizam said MPAJ manages nearly 60 carparks — with more than 17,500 bays — across the municipality.
The council also said it would ramp up monitoring and enforcement to ensure motorists comply with payment requirements.
As of October 16, MPAJ had collected RM7 million in parking fees, including RM3.23 million from reserved bays, RM202,000 from monthly passes, RM271,000 from resident passes, and RM3.3 million from online collections. Of that amount, RM3.6 million was paid to the Smart Selangor delivery unit.
Separately, Hasrolnizam said the MPAJ has collected almost all of the RM98 million in assessment rates projected for the year.
“As for arrears, MPAJ has recovered 63 per cent of RM20.1 million that it is owed thus far,” he said.
He added that several initiatives have been introduced to improve collection rates, including mobile counters at selected locations for easier payment.
Hasrolnizam said notices have been issued to 332 property owners in Taman Pandan Mesra, Taman Sri Watan, Taman Dagang Jaya, Taman Mulia Jaya, Lembah Jaya Selatan, Lembah Jaya Utara, and Taman Angsana Hilir, involving total arrears of over RM270,000.
