KUALA LANGAT, Oct 16 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has channelled RM400,000 in initial aid to repair schools and residents’ homes affected by the severe storm in Sijangkang, Kuala Langat and Meru, Klang, yesterday.
Its chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the immediate assistance would enable repair works to be carried out, including roof replacements and restoring basic facilities at affected schools.
“Last night, I discussed the matter with Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari and MBI group chief executive officer Dato' Saipolyazan M. Yusop.
“Yayasan MBI has agreed to allocate RM300,000 to assist the affected areas, in addition to RM100,000 from MBI’s zakat wakalah fund, bringing the total aid to RM400,000,” he said.
Azri was speaking to the press after inspecting the damage at SRA Kampung Medan and SK Kampung Medan today.
He added that the allocation would be distributed to six affected schools, while RM100,000 would be channelled to the Sijangkang state constituency service centre and RM50,000 to the Meru state constituency to repair damaged homes.
“We want repair works to be expedited. Contractors may submit reimbursement claims through their respective constituency service centres once the works are completed,” Azri said.

The damaged schools have been identified as SRA Kampung Medan, SK Kampung Medan, SK Sijangkang Jaya, SK Jalan Tanjung, and several others currently being assessed by the Public Works Department.
“Schools that suffered severe damage will receive between RM20,000 and RM50,000, depending on the extent of the damage. SRA Kampung Medan and SK Kampung Medan will each receive RM50,000, while other schools will receive at least RM20,000,” he said.
The state government has also assisted 70 families placed at two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in Sijangkang and Meru.
“We have sent additional supplies to support the Social Welfare Department at the PPS. The aid teams are currently distributing essential items, followed by special disaster relief contributions for registered victims,” Azri said.
He hopes that all victims will remain resilient in facing this ordeal and assured that both the state and Federal governments are committed to ensuring aid is channelled promptly to restore the lives of affected residents.
Yesterday, several areas around Meru and Sijangkang were struck by a severe storm followed by a tornado, causing extensive damage to homes, schools and vehicles, including SK Sijangkang Jaya and SRA Kampung Medan.
