BANTING, Sept 28 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) or MBI has channelled RM20,000 towards repairing the roof of SJK(T) Telok Datok, which was damaged in a storm.
Its chairman Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said emergency assistance had previously been channelled for restoration works after the school was affected by the disaster on April 30.
“Today’s symbolic cheque presentation officially marks the handover of the assistance, while the funds for the repair works had already been channelled earlier. The repairs are complete, and pupils can now continue their lessons in a comfortable environment.
“This contribution demonstrates Yayasan MBI’s commitment to assisting those affected by disasters, including schools that require immediate assistance for restoration works,” he said during the aid presentation ceremony today.
Azri added that the federal government, through the Kuala Langat District Education Office, has channelled RM100,000 to the school for restoration purposes.
“The school will also receive an allocation from the Prime Minister’s Department's Implementation Coordination Unit,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kuala Langat Parliamentary coordinator Haridass Ramasamy said his office helped submit the school’s funding application to Yayasan MBI.
“The school immediately applied for assistance for restoration works following the disaster. Yayasan MBI facilitated the application process by requesting several documents before the funds were channelled through the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) account within two weeks,” he said.
On his part, SJK(T) Telok Datok head teacher Ganesh Ramasamy Konndar said the school and the PTA expressed their appreciation to everyone who had assisted with the restoration process following the incident.
He noted that the incident occurred during school hours while pupils and teachers were carrying out co-curricular activities.
“The unusual weather conditions before the rain and storm struck prompted teachers to act quickly to find a safe place of shelter for the pupils.
“We are grateful that the damage was limited to the roof and several other structures and did not compromise the safety of pupils at the school,” Ganesh said.
