KLANG, Oct 21 — Forty-three families affected by a storm in Kampung Delek on May 2 have expressed gratitude after receiving RM500 each in aid from the Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, today.

The recipients said the assistance will help ease their financial burden, particularly the cost of repairing homes damaged by the storm.

One victim, Habibah Mohd Raub, 56, said she suffered losses estimated at RM10,000 after strong winds tore off her roof, letting water into her home.

The incident occurred at 3.30pm while she was attending a feast at a nearby relative's house, when the powerful storm caught them off guard.

“The storm was so strong that even the canopy at the feast was blown away. Everyone panicked, and many people rushed back to their homes.

“When I arrived home, I was shocked to find that water had entered the house because the roof had been blown off. Alhamdulillah (God be praised), apart from Yayasan MBI, we also received assistance from the District Office and zakat authorities,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nur Atikah Nor Azizan, 28, said she was shocked to discover that the storm had torn off her roof, and her home was also affected by flooding.

The incident disrupted the lives of her three-member household, comprising herself, her mother, and her younger sibling.

“I did not know whether to feel sad or what when I saw the condition of the house, but I am grateful that no one was killed. Thank you to Yayasan MBI for the assistance,” she told Media Selangor.

Another recipient, Mohd Hisam Jantan, 54, said the contribution will help cover part of the cost of repairing the roof of his rented house, which was damaged by strong winds.

His tenant had informed him of the incident before he inspected the damage himself.

“Yayasan MBI has shown great concern. Although this contribution cannot cover all the damage, at least it helps pay part of the repair costs,” he said.
