SHAH ALAM, Sept 19 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning covering multiple states, including Selangor’s Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor districts, this morning.
The advisory, released at 6.50 am on their official facebook page, said thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected until 9 am today in parts of Perak, Terengganu, Pahang and Sarawak as well.
In Perak, the affected areas are Larut, Matang dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak.
Terengganu’s Marang, Dungun and Kemaman districts are also listed, alongside Kuantan in Pahang.
For Sarawak, the warning covers Samarahan (Simunjan), Mukah (Dalat and Mukah), Kapit (Song and Kapit), and Bintulu.
MetMalaysia explained that such warnings are issued when signs indicate thunderstorms with rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last for over an hour.
MetMalaysia also explained that the warning is a short-term alert, covering only the next few hours, and each notice is valid for a maximum of six hours.
