Selangor teams up with Tourism Ministry to roll out red carpet for Asean meet

SHAH ALAM, Sept 17 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari received a courtesy call from Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and a delegation from the ministry (Motac) at the State Secretariat Building today.

He said the discussions focused on strategic collaboration between the Selangor government and Motac to ensure the smooth organisation of the 34th Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting.

The event is scheduled to take place next month in Bandar Sunway.

“The Selangor government welcomes this discussion and is committed to ensuring the success of the programme.

“At the same time, these efforts will strengthen the promotion of the state’s tourism sector, in line with the implementation of Visit Selangor Year 2025,” he said in an Instagram post.

Tourism Selangor’s latest statistics show that the state welcomed 4.14 million visitors between January and June this year, marking a 13.8 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Of this, 72 per cent or 2.97 million were domestic travellers, while 1.17 million were international arrivals.

China, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, and India made up the top international markets, accounting for 51 per cent of total arrivals, while Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Perak, Pahang, and Penang remained the leading sources of domestic visitors.

Subang Jaya emerged as the most visited municipality, attracting 1.04 million people, or 25.1 per cent of the total.

The sector contributed RM6.69 billion in tourist expenditure, up 13 per cent from RM5.92 billion a year earlier, with international visitors making up nearly three-quarters of the total.

The growth was also driven by campaigns under Visit Selangor Year 2025, including Surprising Selangor! and Selangor Kan Ada!, which continue to boost the state’s tourism profile.
