SHAH ALAM, Aug 10 — Selangor has retained its position as Malaysia's most visited state for five consecutive years since 2021, recording 36.4 million domestic visitors in 2025.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the achievement strengthened Selangor's position as a preferred tourist destination while contributing to the state's economic growth.
He said Selangor's success was the result of the continued commitment of the entire tourism ecosystem, with industry players working together to develop the sector.
"In 2025, Selangor recorded 36.4 million domestic visitors, an increase of 5.5 per cent compared with the previous year.
"This achievement strengthens Selangor's position as a preferred tourist destination while contributing to economic growth and fiscal strength," he said in a statement released by Tourism Selangor on August 8.
Amirudin was speaking at the Selangor State Tourism Awards 2026 at Sunway Resort Hotel in Subang Jaya, which recognised excellence and contributions by industry players.

A total of 26 award categories were introduced, including Best Integrated Resort & Theme Park Destination, International Tourism Partnership Award and Selangor Cruise Tourism Excellence Award.
The awards recognised individuals and organisations that demonstrated outstanding performance, significant impact and sustained commitment to advancing Selangor's tourism industry.
Amirudin also highlighted how the state's strong tourism performance went hand in hand with the strength of its economy, which continued to lead the nation.
He said Selangor remained the largest contributor to Malaysia's gross domestic product (GDP), at RM460.1 billion, accounting for 26.5 per cent of the national economy.
"This success reflects the strength of the state's economy, investor confidence and the effectiveness of development policies implemented in a sustainable and inclusive manner," he said.

The success of Visit Selangor Year 2025 has laid a strong foundation for Visit Selangor Year 2026, which targets nine million tourists to the state.
To support that aspiration, Tourism Selangor continues to intensify promotional efforts through the Surprising Selangor, Selangor Kan Ada! and Liburan Sehat Ya di Selangor Aja! campaigns.
