SHAH ALAM, Aug 24 — More than 2,500 Kelantan students are benefiting from the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS) this year as the initiative expands to 62 schools.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme, which provides free learning modules to students who cannot afford tuition classes, will cover 62 schools under five District Education Offices (PPDs).
“On Saturday, I visited Kelantan to review the implementation of PTRS there. The PTRS initiative in Kelantan is my personal initiative to help Form 5 students there.
“This initiative is managed by my friend (Zahariman Ariffin) through his non-governmental organisation, Pertubuhan Reformis Ulung,” he said in a post on X.
Amirudin said PTRS is managed by Pertubuhan Reformis Ulung in collaboration with the Kelantan State Education Department to assist Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates in the state.
“This programme received very good cooperation from Kelantan education director Puan Hajah Siti Norina Muhamad and her officers. I would like to express my gratitude (to them),” he said.
He also expressed hope that the programme’s expansion would have a lasting impact on students in the state.
“It is hoped that the PTRS module, which has proven successful and helped hundreds of thousands of children in Selangor, will benefit children in other states, God willing,” he added.
The programme was launched in Kelantan last year as a pilot initiative to benefit nearly 1,000 Form 5 students across 24 schools in the Kota Bharu and Tumpat districts before it was expanded to its current scale this year.
PTRS is a free tuition initiative funded by the Selangor government under its social welfare and human capital development efforts.
The initiative primarily targets Forms 4 and 5 students, particularly those from low-income families, who need additional academic support.
