SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — Land acquisition and compensation issues that previously hampered the West Coast Expressway (WCE) project have been fully resolved.
Sekinchan state assemblyman Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the resolution of compensation and price negotiations that had caused dissatisfaction among residents would allow construction to proceed without further delays.
“With the compensation issues settled, I am confident the WCE project can now move forward quickly,” he told Media Selangor.
Ng, who is also the state executive councillor for local government and tourism, urged the developer to mobilise machinery and strengthen construction work so that the highway can be completed ahead of schedule.
“Following procedures may take time, but if we can speed things up, it would be better. Road users and residents around Anjung Utara are very concerned about congestion and ongoing WCE works. They, too, hope this project can be completed sooner for everyone’s benefit,” he said.
Ng said the project is currently targeted for completion by the end of next year. However, he said earlier completion would bring significant benefits to commuters, residents, and visitors to Kuala Selangor, Sekinchan, Tanjong Karang, and Sungai Besar.
“It will also boost surrounding land values. With this stretch completed, more investors are expected to come to Anjung Utara due to better road and transport connectivity,” he said.
Ng stated that the WCE will become an alternative route to the frequently congested North-South Expressway (PLUS), particularly during peak holiday seasons.
“Even though the Tanjong Karang stretch is not yet complete, traffic along Federal Route 5 has already increased.
“For example, during long weekends, many people use this route to return to their hometowns or travel to Anjung Utara, Kuala Selangor, Sekinchan, Tanjong Karang, and Sungai Besar. It also serves as an alternative to the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) for those heading to Setiawan, Bagan Datuk, Teluk Intan, Changkat Jering, and even Penang,” he said.
Ng also called on all parties, including landowners, agencies, and fellow lawmakers, to cooperate in ensuring the strategic project is completed on schedule.
In a Sinar Harian report, WCE Strategic Communication and Stakeholder Engagement head Syed Mohammed Idid said the WCE stretch at Section 7, Tanjong Karang, remains on track for completion by the end of 2026, with no land acquisition obstacles reported.
He told the Malay daily that the positive development confirms that the alignment faces no major hurdles and will proceed as planned.
