PETALING JAYA, April 7 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat communications director Lee Chean Chung has put himself up as Petaling Jaya Keadilan chief candidate ahead of the party polls this week.
Also self-nominated were Keadilan Youth information chief Nabil Halimi, for the youth leader position, and Maisarah Ismail, for the women’s head position.
In a press conference, Lee, who is also Petaling Jaya MP, said he is contesting to add value to the constituency and present healthy competition during the election.
“We don’t mean to downgrade or make personal attacks, we instead want to do our best for supporters in Petaling Jaya and put the Madani government on a better path.
“Among my aspirations are to strengthen grassroots in the Taman Medan, Seri Setia, Bukit Gasing state constituencies, as well as developing at least 50 subbranches in Petaling Jaya.
“I also suggest making the Petaling Jaya branch the first to have its own office, and hold Petaling Jaya subbranch meetings before branch gatherings so grassroots voices are heard,” said the Indera Mahkota branch ex-chief.
Meanwhile, Nabil, Petaling Jaya Youth chief candidate, is looking to claim the position upon advice from grassroots.
“This is the first (party) election held after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim became Prime Minister. Keadilan now needs fresh leaders who are proactive in the field not just for political gain, but for government effectiveness.
“For this election, other than strengthening and developing Petaling Jaya subbranches, as well as preparing the machinery for the upcoming election. I also want to develop the Taman Medan Keadilan Youth hub, which is suitable as it is a Keadilan stronghold and has a high percentage of youth.
“This isn’t easy as there are several corners, but my focus is at the branch level and also at the central level. God willing, I will volunteer as the Youth deputy as well,” he said.
Petaling Jaya Keadilan Women’s head candidate Maisarah Ismail said she is committed to empower women by centring unity, inclusivity, and progressive leadership.
