Selangor to clear out business licences, warns against abuse

SHAH ALAM, May 19 — The state government is in the process of examining and purging the licenses issued to traders and hawker operators in rural areas following reports of abuse.

Selangor Entrepreneur, Rural, Village and Traditional Village Development Committee chairman Rodziah Ismail said almost 7,000 out of the 20,000 registered traders have been leased to third parties, including foreigners.

"This is a serious matter and should not be tolerated. The state administration gave the traders business opportunities but they took advantage of it and misused it.

"I have requested the state government agencies to collaborate with 12 local authorities to review and screen the licenses. We will revoke the licenses and give it to those who really want to run their businesses," she told SelangorKini today.

Meanwhile, Rodziah said more traders from rural areas have moved their businesses to online platforms during the enforced movement control order (MCO).

"The silver lining behind the MCO had driven business owner from the villages to market their products online, which would produce more competitive entrepreneurs in Selangor," she added.
