KLANG, Oct 13 — Traders in Teluk Pulai are urging the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) for more lots and a better online management system, such as an auto-termination system for defaulters.

Checks by Media Selangor at Tapak Penjaja Simpang Empat here found that most traders are renewing and applying for business licenses online, a system that was launched last year, but noted that some areas need improvement.

Trader Shukri Muslim Maulana, 33, who has been doing business in the area for two years, said the council needs to update its online management system, such as by installing an auto-termination application to dismiss defaulters.

He said the existing process, which requires traders to inform the council that they wish to stop running their stall, has prolonged the process for new renters to take over empty lots.

“Usually, when traders (in other places) stop paying their fees, authorities will automatically terminate them, but there is no (such) system in place here yet.

“For new traders, they have to wait for previous (renters) to inform MDBK by submitting a cancellation letter to cancel their licence and stall rentals.

“When it is submitted and approved, then we can join. It should be easier now as most applications can be done online,” he said when met at the market.

Asri Yakub.

Seeing as more traders are keen to rent lots in the area, Asri Yakub, 43, who has been running his stall here since 2021, suggested more lots or markets to attract more vendors.

“Ideally, the government should open up more designated sites to accommodate businesses that lack … licences or stalls,” he said.

Asri added that renewing his licence is easier now as he can do it online.

“Initially, we had to apply using a physical form... Later, around 2024, a digital system was introduced.

“Since then, applying for a licence has become very easy; everything is now handled through the digital system, making the whole process very convenient,” he said.

Another trader, Tan Chin Lee, 63, urged MBDK to lower its licensing fee.

“The licence (fee) used to be cheap, but now it has gone up. If possible, make it a bit cheaper to make it more affordable for people to get their licence,” she said.

MBDK announced in December 2024 that licence renewals for 2025 can only be done online, a move credited with making the process faster and more accessible for traders.
