SHAH ALAM, Nov 6 — Local authorities in Selangor have been directed to take enforcement action against developers who fail to maintain retention ponds and properly manage water flow and sediment at construction sites.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Dato' Izham Hashim said the directive followed a coordination meeting involving various agencies to comprehensively review flood-related issues and ensure follow-up measures were implemented.

He said developers were responsible for ensuring that water flow and sediment management at construction sites complied with the Erosion and Sediment Control Plan (ESCP).

"The relevant local authorities have been instructed to take appropriate enforcement action against developers found to have failed to fulfil these responsibilities," he said in a Facebook post.

Izham said the meeting, held yesterday, also involved the Public Works Department (JKR), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), and representatives from the engineering departments of all local authorities in Selangor.

Representatives from the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), PLUS, KUSEL, Infrasel, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Air Selangor were also present.

Earlier, he inspected damage caused by the collapse of a culvert approach road along Jalan Kubu Gajah, near Sungai Subang in Kampung Kubu Gajah.

Izham stressed that the state government would continue to prioritise residents' safety and well-being in addressing flood risks, particularly amid challenging weather conditions.

"In facing weather challenges, our shared priority is to plan carefully and ensure that every agreed measure is properly implemented," he said.
