SHAH ALAM, Nov 4 — The Selangor government has allocated RM70 million more to execute 255 quick-win flood mitigation projects statewide, with 70 per cent already done, said state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim.
He said these projects include installing pumps, cleaning drains and upgrading riverbanks in flood-prone areas.
“Whichever quickest, those (projects) we did immediately. Seventy per cent of quick-win projects have been completed throughout Selangor,” he said when met after a groundbreaking ceremony for the Selangor Water Management Authority’s (LUAS) new headquarters in Section 33 here today.

Izham said quick-win projects are meant to lower flood risks while waiting for larger-scale flood mitigation projects to be completed, which take longer as they involve studies, design phases and land acquisition.
He added that over 160 flood mitigation projects, valued at RM4 billion, are underway in Selangor.
Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) data shows that 177 of the 255 quick-win flood mitigation projects in Selangor have been completed. Of the remaining 78, 37 are being planned, 20 are undergoing procurement, and 21 are underway. The overall projects approved are valued at RM86.48 million, while the actual procurement value is RM85.68 million.
JPS is handling 162 projects of which 113 are completed, while local authorities are managing 60 projects of which 40 are done. There are 25 projects under the Public Works Department (JKR), 18 of which are finished, while District and Land Offices have completed five of its seven projects, and the Malaysian Highway Authority has finished one project.
