SHAH ALAM, Nov 2 — Following several accidents that have raised concerns among residents, the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) has outlined safety improvements along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari (B49), including plans to upgrade the road.
JKR Selangor said the state government has approved an allocation of RM3 million to construct an additional lane from Puncak Alam towards Shah Alam, with work expected to begin in mid-2027.
The department said the medium-term project would also involve utility relocation works as part of efforts to improve the road.
As for safety measures already implemented, the department said the state government had approved a total of RM4.2 million between 2023 and October this year.
"During a press conference by the infrastructure executive councillor on October 29, several improvements already implemented, as well as medium- and long-term plans to enhance road safety, were outlined.
"To date, the state government has approved RM4.2 million for JKR Selangor to carry out road safety improvements from 2023 to October 2026, including the addition of temporary lanes, installation of additional road signs and street furniture, and street lighting," it said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, as a long-term solution, JKR Selangor has also submitted a proposal to widen Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari to four lanes under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2).
"For long-term planning, JKR Selangor has submitted a proposal to upgrade Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari (B49) to four lanes, including improvements to major junctions from the DASH interchange to the Budiman Valley U15 junction under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2)," it said.
In addition, JKR Selangor has imposed requirements on property developers to upgrade two junctions, namely the Persiaran Pulau Lumut/B49 junction and the Greenhill Residence junction.
The department is also considering the need to upgrade the Alam Budiman junction, with proposed improvements to be submitted to the State Government based on traffic study data.

The statement was issued following a report by TV3's Buletin Utama on October 31, which highlighted residents' concerns over safety along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari following frequent accidents.
JKR Selangor stressed that the safety and comfort of road users along the route remained a priority and advised motorists to always observe road signs for everyone's safety.
Earlier, Media Selangor reported that infrastructure executive councillor Dato' Izham Hashim said medium-term upgrading works along the road were expected to begin in the middle of next year once utility relocation works were completed.
According to Izham, the improvements are expected to be completed within the same year and will include upgrading the Alam Budiman junction, adding a lane from Puncak Alam towards Shah Alam, and improving traffic signals, street lighting and drainage systems.
