SHAH ALAM, Nov 4 — There are fewer high-tide floods in Kampung Sungai Janggut and Kampung Tok Adam, from seven incidents in 2023 to one this year, thanks to erosion control and seawall reinforcement projects completed in March.
According to the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), three high-tide floods occurred in both 2024 and 2025. It said the seawall projects, which started on June 21, 2024, and were finished on March 3 this year, cost over RM4.8 million.
In Kampung Sungai Janggut, a 2.1km breakwater and 750m seawall were built, while Kampung Tok Adam received a 500m breakwater and 300m seawall.
Selangor JPS said these projects aimed to reduce erosion from waves and currents and protect residents’ homes and property.
“This project also reinforced breakwater structures for long-term protection and improved the coastal community’s safety and well-being.
“It has also reduced the risk of seawater overflowing to land, and supports environmental conservation and local economic development,” it said in a Facebook post.
Selangor JPS said it will keep up erosion control works along the state’s coastline.
