SHAH ALAM, Nov 4 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has advised residents to prepare for potential floods by readying emergency bags and moving vehicles to higher ground at the first signs of rising water levels.
It said the bags should ideally contain important documents, medication, torchlights, food supplies, and drinking water. Residents are advised not to walk or drive through floodwaters or use inundated roads, as doing so could endanger their safety.
"In view of unpredictable weather conditions throughout the northeast monsoon, we advise residents across its administrative areas to remain vigilant, strengthen their preparedness, and take the necessary safety precautions against possible floods and other disasters," MBSA said in a statement today.
Citing the Malaysian Meteorological Department's data, it said the 2026/2027 northeast monsoon began on Tuesday (October 27) and is expected to continue until March 2027.
"Between November 2026 and January 2027, the country is expected to experience between three and five episodes of continuous heavy rainfall, potentially increasing the risk of flooding in several areas," MBSA said.
It also advised residents to ensure their family members, particularly children, senior citizens, and disabled persons, remain safe and are ready to evacuate if instructed by the authorities.
"Residents are also advised to stay informed about weather developments and follow official instructions and announcements from the authorities and relevant agencies. Public co-operation in complying with these instructions is essential to ensure that safety measures and evacuation procedures can be carried out in an orderly manner during emergencies," MBSA said.
In the event of an emergency or if assistance is required in relation to disasters or floods, residents may contact the MBSA Disaster Operations Room (PANTAS) at 03-5510 5811 for assistance or to report incidents.
"MBSA will continue monitoring weather conditions and developments across its administrative area, while co-ordinating with relevant agencies to prepare for any potential disasters.
"These efforts will remain a priority, with the safety and well-being of residents at the forefront," said the local authority.
