SHAH ALAM, Nov 3 — Shah Alam residents may now monitor high-risk areas in real time and receive early warnings through the Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) Smart Lens Portal (i-Lensa).
Shah Alam Integrated Smart Monitoring System (IRIS) Command Centre manager Najhan Pata Sairi said the portal was developed to be mobile responsive, so people may access information using their smartphones, tablets, and computers.
“The i-Lensa platform was developed after the massive 2021 floods and is MBSA’s centralised smart monitor, through which we monitor (between) 174 and 200 CCTVs throughout Shah Alam.
“With previous methods, we didn’t have early (warnings) to show to residents in the event of a disaster. We had CCTVs but only at the MBSA command centre, but with i-Lensa, we give CCTV footage to the people no matter the time.
“We show live feeds and residents can monitor disaster locations… We have flood, crime and public community hotspots. We also have real time siren warnings, which means that if water exceeds the warning or danger (levels), a sound will play on (users’) phones,” he told Media Selangor.
Najhan added that among the areas being monitored is Section 23 near AEON Big, which frequently floods.
“With (CCTV) monitoring in Sections 15, 17, 19, 23 and 25, including Padang Jawa, there seems to be fewer cases. Now cases are moving to U12 and i-City, but it involves Klang, so we have to integrate to resolve it,” he explained.
He said MBSA is always monitoring at-risk areas before disaster strikes, with the IRIS Command Centre operating around the clock.
“For example, if there is heavy rain in some areas, the command centre will monitor through hotspot telemetry. We also have the Shah Alam Disaster Teams Coalition, among which are police, firefighters, district offices, the Social Welfare Department, and PANTAS squad.
“If there is a case of rising water, we will hand it over to teams in the field, they will check whether it is a high- or low-risk situation before (responding),” Najhan said.
