SHAH ALAM, Oct 2 — Illegal dumping sites and open burning around Sungai Tangkas, Kajang continue to recur despite several enforcement actions taken previously.
Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan said irresponsible parties often moved to other locations after authorities took action against them.
This situation made enforcement difficult because the area has numerous back lanes and access roads.
“Even when enforcement action is taken, including against the owners, these irresponsible parties will change the location and area where they dump rubbish.
“There are also many back lanes and roads leading into the area. This makes it challenging for enforcement officers to monitor the entire area,” he told Media Selangor.
Syahredzan added that a large-scale and integrated operation is necessary to address the problem more effectively.
This initiative should involve cooperation between multiple agencies and be led by the state government.
At the same time, the Bangi MP’s Office, together with Kajang Municipal Council, will install new closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area.
The system, costing RM27,128.40, includes poles, solar panels, and cloud storage subscriptions. The previous CCTV system had been damaged by irresponsible parties.
Earlier this afternoon, another fire broke out at an illegal dumping site along Jalan Cemerlang, Sungai Tangkas.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the fire involved an area measuring approximately 70 by 20 feet.
Six personnel and one fire engine were deployed to the site, with firefighting operations to continue tomorrow using an excavator.
Illegal dumping and open burning in the area have been ongoing for a long time. In January, a fire at the same site took three days to extinguish, and irresponsible parties also cut the CCTV cables.
