SHAH ALAM, Nov 3 — The state government will review progress on ongoing flood mitigation projects, including contracts that were awarded and yet to be complete, following the flash floods that struck areas in Sungai Buloh yesterday.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said a meeting with the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) has been scheduled for this Friday (November 6) to review and accelerate flood mitigation efforts in Kampung Melayu Subang.
“One of the immediate measures agreed upon by Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) is to accelerate ongoing flood mitigation projects, in particular the deepening of Sungai Damansara. This initiative aims to improve water flow and reduce the risk of overflow into residential areas.
“The upcoming meeting with DID will focus on reviewing the progress of state government projects, including several contracts awarded as early as 2015 that remain incomplete.
“We aim to identify tasks that can be expedited so that flood-risk reduction efforts can promptly benefit the local residents,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Earlier, Amirudin accompanied Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Siantan, Kampung Melayu Subang, which are currently sheltering 30 victims from eight families.
Also present were Sungai Buloh MP Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, and Kota Damansara state assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim.
The Menteri Besar also visited the surrounding area, including the Kampung Melayu Subang Health Clinic, to assess the extent of the flood’s impact.
“I am acutely aware of the distress faced by the residents of Kampung Melayu Subang, who continue to endure repeated flooding. Their safety and well-being remain our highest priority.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), the state government will work closely with the federal government and all relevant agencies to ensure that immediate follow-up actions are implemented effectively and without hesitation,” he said.
